Made to celebrate a 125th anniversary, this men’s Tissot 125 is in great condition and is the model in the range to get.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1977, but the 125 is a reference to Tissot’s 125th anniversary in 1978. Either year could be considered valid for a birth year watch.
CONDITION
The watch is in absolutely fantastic condition, as good as you could ever hope for in a 40+ year old watch. The 10 micron gold plate is great, even on the corners on the enlarged photos. The glass is unmarked, and arrived to us with a protective plastic in place (not sure if this was the original plastic?). Inside this watch is a Tissot 2032, 2 jewel quartz movement that shares much of the components with Omega’s quartz watches of the period (Omega and Tissot were part of the SHH group, and the movement is actually marked SHH too.). Unusually this type of movement has no crown, and is adjusted by pressing and holding the button at three in, releasing and repressing until the correct time is displayed. This quartz movement also has jump minutes, as shown in the video. The textured dial is in great condition too, and the replacement leather strap is new – this could be swapped for a brown leather strap if you prefer.
We have taken a photo alongside a copy of the original advert. The advantage this watch has is that it doesn’t have the bracelet, which often shows wear and the size might restrict some people from enjoying the watch if the bracelet has been adjusted. Plus gold plated bracelet often show plate wear quite quickly.
