HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1977. However the warranty book, which quotes that same serial number, shows it was sold in November 1978. Either year can be considered valid for a Birth Year Watch.
CONDITION
The 111.0131 model De Ville was a huge sales success for Omega in the later 1970’s. It used a small manual wind movement, Omega’s calibre 625, to allow a thin case of under 6mm. This was at a time where the in fashion quartz movements were still quite bulky, so the De Ville found fans from people who wanted a comfortable mechanical watch with none of the faff of changing batteries. Five years later the quartz movements had been made much smaller, and the case designs followed where this Omega lead. This watch has a 20 micron gold plated case, matched with a cabochon cut stone (possibly Onyx) in the crown. The case does show signs of wear to the plating, which are easier to see in the enlarged photos than in real life. The dial has some patina, but is original and unrestored. The leaf hands are good. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
This watch will be supplied with the original outer cardboard box. inner presentation box, original warranty papers and our Certificate of Authenticity.
