The Oysterdate may be one of the most affordable Rolex models, but that doesn’t stop it being very desirable. Model reference 6694.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number that is found between the bottom two lugs we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1976. The bracelet also has a dating code, but this shows the clasp was produced in 1990 – so at some point it has had either a new bracelet or at least the bracelet clasp. It is the correct 7835 bracelet and 357 end links for this model.
CONDITION
The main differences between the Oysterdate and the more expensive Datejust models are the Datejust is is 1mm larger and has the perpetual (automatic) movement, whereas the Oysterdate has a manual wind movement. The Oyster case on this Oysterdate is in good shape – the longevity of these watches means they can be polished a few times, and the tell tale sign is pointy lugs rather than the squared off lugs you see here. The manual wind movement is operated via the screw down crown, and is all running well. The non quickset calendar has the popular open six and nine’s. The dial is original and not restored, and has nice creamy tritium lume. The acrylic crystal does have some small scratches that might polish out. The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath.
