Heavy, solid gold cased watch from the Queen’s jewelers, Garrard. Manual wind movement.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
We have two relevant dates for this watch. The case has a London hallmark from 1976, and the inscription on the case back states 1977.
CONDITION
The unpolished case is all vary good, with straight, thick lugs that only show some scratches that could be polished out if needed. The dial is very clean and has a nice subtle radial spun effect. The hands are untarnished, so may also be gold. A new crystal has been fitted, but the quality leather strap has a lot of life left in it. A sign of quality in 9kt gold presentation watches is the caseback – some have dents and dings, where they are very thin to save gold in the manufacturing process. This watch has a screw on case back that, by design, has to be thicker and heavier than a standard clip on caseback. Garrard have not had the Royal warrant for so long without high standards.
