A relatively early Seiko quartz range, the SQ 4004 bought quartz to the masses when it was launched. Model reference 0903-8049.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number hallmark on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1975.
CONDITION
The 4004 SQ is a typical feat of over engineering in order to get a somewhat sceptical market to try quartz regulated movements. As well as a case and bracelet made from stainless steel, the movement has quite secure protection on and around it – maybe Seiko were trying to impress the watchmakers more than the customers? If you see the difference between the photo of the movement out of the case and then compare with the one in the case you can see the differences easily. The over engineering has clearly worked, as the watch is nearly fifty years old and working perfectly. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The SQ 4004 also has quick set day and date, and the day wheel can be set to three different languages. The black dial is excellent, and the glass free of significant marks. The bracelet is short and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. Alternatively a bracelet extender can be fitted to the clasp. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath.
