With some styling similar to the Rolex Midas, this Seiko has a funky asymmetrical case and bracelet. Model reference 11-4230.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1975.
CONDITION
The George Genta designed the King Midas for Rolex, but it wasn’t available to the general republic (reserved for VVIP’s such as Royalty and Elvis) and therefore are scarce. They are also all 18k gold, so if you want an asymmetric case you will need a large budget. But while at first there are similarities this Seiko is quite different to the Rolex, not just in cost and materials. The Rolex has an asymmetric case but a straight bracelet, whereas the 11-4230 Seiko has a rectangular case and a very unusual bracelet that tapers one one side only from 29mm to 14mm at the clasp. It is an unusual design that you will either love or hate. The dial is the same vivid blue that Seiko favoured in the mid seventies and did so well. The movement is Seiko’s hand winding 11A, which is simple and robust but allows a slim profile. The bracelet has been polished in the past.
