The Caravelle Set-O-Matic was waterproof to 666ft, so these and their sister company Bulova watches became known as devil divers. Model reference 7716
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1975.
CONDITION
Given that these were originally tool watches, you expect a few bumps and bruises. However this one is in great shape, with little damage to report at all. The worst part is the original bracelet, that without the extension piece we have fitted would be too short for most people. The case is crisp and in excellent condition, and the bezel still turns in both directions. Despite the 666ft rating, this watch doesn’t have a unidirectional click bezel, but instead a friction fit (shown in the video). The movement is a Bulova 11UKACB 17 jewel automatic, which is based on an AS1916. It is all working well, including the quick set day and date which is probably why it was christened Set-O-Matic. As vintage divers watches continue to appreciate in value this is a chance to get a really nice one.
