Gilt (or Vermeil) is the correct name for gold plated silver, which is what the case and bracelet of this Seiko is made from. Model reference 11-0630.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in November 1974.
CONDITION
Quite why Seiko chose to gold plate silver is a mystery. You can gold plate base metal just as well, and no one would know the difference, but I suppose it is good for marketing to say this is Gilt. Cartier repeated the technique in the 1980’s with the Must de Cartier range, but in honesty Seiko have a better finish – many of the Must de Cartier watches have very worn plating, where this is in great condition. The bracelet is a good length, which is important as you would struggle to find spare links, and the bracelet has also been cleaned ultrasonically to shake out any dirt. The movement is Seiko’s own calibre 11, which is running well. I have to say the fine lined finish to the case and bracelet is as good as anything we have seen from any brand.
