Designed to celebrate Bulova’s Centenary, this Accuquartz has a case shaped like a tuning fork and is highly collectible.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1974.  It was designed to be sold in 1975 as part of the centenary celebrations for Bulova, hence the 100 on the dial.

CONDITION

The tuning fork was such an important invention in Bulova’s history that it still is their logo today.  Bulova licensed the technology to lots of firms, including IWC, Longines and Omega as they could not better it.  The Accuquartz was the last development featuring a tuning fork set up, and now it no longer regulates the movement but does get involved by giving the second hand the smooth sweeping action as shown in the video.  On this one the dial is very good, and the case has a few marks.  It wears quite large, and is very distinctive on the wrist.  You still get the hum of a hummer movement with an Accuquartz, and the calibre 2242 movement is working well.  Apparently according to MyBulova.com these were also available in gold plate, but finding either is very difficult.  The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different style if preferred.
