The LM Special was so called as it had some very useful extra horological advantages, as well as some design details. Model reference 5216-6030.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in August 1973. We have found the same watch in the 1974 Seiko catalogue (1973 catalogue not available), and that shows the watch on the same bracelet and at a price of ¥23,000. A similar Seiko watch but with a then new fangled quartz movement would have cost ¥55,000!
CONDITION
So what is special about the LM Special? Over the Standard LM models, you got hacking seconds, two extra jewels in the movement and, unlike some of the automatic Seiko range, this movement can be hand wound. You also get quick set day and date – the day can be set to either English or Kanji – and this works correctly (it doesn’t on all LM models, as we explain on the video). On the design you get a faceted crystal, and an elaborately patterned dial including golden hour markers at 12, 6 and 9. The hands have both black and white paint on them, and match the ones in the brochure so we know they are the correct ones for this model. The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The bracelet, part number XGB091 has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement and clasp.
