CONDITION
There is another good guide to this model watch by Worn and Wound here. Although, a couple of years on, the time for finding any at a couple of hundred dollars has now passed. As these watches are ‘frankened’ (ie made up of various parts) all the time, we have outlined why we have every faith in this example.
This is a decent, wearable example but not perfect. The dial is is a older replacement but does have a few stain marks around the subdial and a minor marks above the day window. While an original dial would be more desirable, the price will reflect this. The dial is at least correct for the period – from 1973 the words water 70m resist were removed from all dials. The inner bezel has hardly faded (many are now white from fading). There are only minimal scratches on the pepsi bezel, and no dinks. The case does not look to have been polished at any time and does have a dink at 10. Again, the case is period correct, with a pre 1971 case having a notch over the crown. The H-link straight bracelet is full length which is rare, and has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. The flush fitting crown is fully functioning – a deep press to quick set change the day (French and English day wheel), a lighter press to quick set the date. In the natural position the crown turns the inner bezel smoothly, and when pulled out the crown sets the time. The automatic only winding movement and chronograph is likewise keeping good time, the chrono hands crisply snapping back to zero. The glass has been changed for a new item. The hands are correct for the model, including the sub second teardrop hand. The case will be cleaned, as some dirt is clearly visible in the photos.
