CONDITION
Hamilton have recently launched a reissue of this watch, which you can buy directly from them here. Or you can buy the original that was issued by the MOD from us! One will be cosmetically perfect and the other has genuine history. One of the other big differences is the original W10 has a monocoque construction to aid waterproofing, whereas the modern watch has a case back held on with screws.
You can see why Hamilton wanted to reissue the W10. It was one of the last mechanically wound military watch and the design hadn’t changed much since WW2, because the design was right to start with. The fixed bars are there for strength, the dial made for clarity and the size wears well. On this example the hands are original, the dial has a chip of paint missing from the edge between 6 and 7 and the stainless steel case is covered in small marks and scratches – issued watches were the original tool watches, and to polish the case on this would be to wipe off the history. The movement is a seventeen jewel Hamilton 649, which was based on an ETA 2750 and features hacking seconds – important for syncronising watches on missions. The straight through strap is new.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
