An unusual design of case for this Accutron, added with the GMT /2nd time zone function, makes this a funky and rare edition to anyone’s collection.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1973.
CONDITION
This watch features a Bulova Calibre 2185 – this is a the ‘standard’ 218 but with an extra hand to allow you to monitor a different time zone. This is set via the crown at 4, that moves both hour hands and the minute hand to set the time, and then you use the crown at two to make the regular hour hand jump an hour at a time – the video explains this better. The quick set date can be set via the crown at 4, unusually in position 1 (with the crown pushed closest to the case). The case is very 1970’s, with the off centre dial and a varying tone dial. The top of the case has hidden lugs, like a UFO case, and the bottom has short lugs. Both crowns are original, and the strap is new. The sweep second hand is among the smoothest of any movement design.
