This Tissot Seastar has a very unusual lobster style bracelet, original from new. Model reference 44670
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1973. However the sales guarantee shows it was sold in May 1975. Either year could be considered valid for a birth year watch.
CONDITION
The watch has a presentation engraving on the caseback, and this matches the name on the guarantee , and it was presented by D.P.O.R.C. – an organisation we have not been able to trace. Most presentation watches are 9k gold, and fairly conservative in design. Not this one. The lobster style bracelet, which is long and we have an extra link for, is very 1970’s and surprisingly comfortable. The movement is a Tissot 2481 automatic, a spin off of the sister company Omega’s 1481 version. Both of these have an Achilles heel – you should be able to quick set the date by pushing the crown in once, but it only works if pressed multiple times (as shown in the video) and then not every time. The date does change at midnight, but not by the crown push mechanism every time. Otherwise the movement is running nicely. The dial is good and would have been great if the mark on the silver part on the left hand side wasn’t there. The blue outer ring and the hands are great. The bracelet has score marks in the inside and you can see contact marks where the bracelet touches the case, which is inevitable with this design.
