HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement and the London 9k hallmark on the clasp we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1973. But the original paperwork, with matching serial number, shows this was sold in July 1974. Either year could be considered valid for a birth year watch.
CONDITION
The case and the bracelet were made by Omega, as witnessed by the OWC stamp on the inside of the case back. The bracelet has a textured finish to the centre, and this is kept in check with fine gold bands down either side. This seems to have stopped any ‘fraying’ that can affect integrated gold bracelets, and there is very little twist to the bracelet either, so the design clearly works both stylistically and as an engineering solution. The bracelet is also long enough for most wrists. The signed clasp was made in the same year, but by goldsmiths WHW. Inside is a manually wound Omega Calibre 601, which is adjusted to two positions and has 17 jewels. The matte dial is exceptionally clean for a non water resistant watch of this age, but it is original. This is the second gold Omega of this model we have had (the other had a golden dial and can be seen here), and we didn’t hesitate in getting another when this one became available.
