HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being in December 1972.
CONDITION
This model was named by vintagecitizenwatches.com as ‘one of the most beautiful Citizen ever made’ on their dedicated page to this model, which is good reading. The 23 jewel movement, calibre 8100A, is very high specification. The column wheel chronograph, high beat escapement (28.8kbph) and flyback function on the chrono to allow you to stop and restart the timer instantly would all normally be associated with a more expensive watch. This watch was from the first year of production for this calibre, which is only three years since the launch of the very first automatic chronographs ever available. To add to this Citizen also included a day and date calendar, both with the ability to be quickset, and the day wheel can show either English or French on this example. The dial is good, with some marks to the silver tachymetre The 30 minute chronograph subdial is set off with green and orange highlights very effectively. The case has a black finish, which isn’t bad but not perfect, and that description would also be good for the glass. The black finished bracelet is new but not by Citizen.
