HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1972.
CONDITION
1972 is a bit of a high point in watchmaking, and Certina were employing 900 people at this time. Quartz watches were still very expensive, and the 1973 Oil Crisis hadn’t happened, so companies were in the happy place of being able to experiment with different case designs while retaining the quality movements inside and not cutting costs. Maybe the model name Club 2000 is showing us what the designers thought would be in fashion in the year 2000? That movement in this case is the in house calibre 25-661, beautifully finished as Certina movements were back then. Only your watchmaker would see it, as it is hidden behind the stainless steel back. This movement also features a semi quick set date, going from midnight to 22:30 and back to midnight advances the date one day. The rest of the case is chromed, even though it does look stainless steel. The original winder is still there, and it is a bit fiddly to wind due to the case design but possible. The dial is very clean, the glass and rally style leather strap are both new and this watch presents and works very well indeed.
