This day date Accutron has the deep red wine dial fading to black that makes it stand out from the crowd.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1972.
CONDITION
The Accutron was a watch that changed horology. Yes there had been earlier battery powered watches, but the Accutron was more precise and more reliable and it really got people used to the idea of having battery powered watches. So precise was it, and completely different in design to a conventional watch, that the lunar module had an Accutron clock on board in case conventional movements didn’t work! This example has the 2182 movement fitted, which also has quick set date (the day is set by moving the hands past midnight, but you only would need to do that after a battery change. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The expanding bracelet is is just stamped USA and may not be original to the watch. The red dial is very nice, and just has the Tuning fork logo rather than the word Bulova. The crystal has a magnifier over just the date, not the day, so we are not sure if that is a replacement or if that is how they came – we have another Bulova with the same crystal magnifier set under the glass that is original, so it may well be. There are some minor marks on the crystal but not enough to warrant replacement.
