HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1972. However the sales papers, which have the same serial number, show it was sold in December 1976. Either year is valid for a birth year watch.
CONDITION
Having such a complete set for a watch of this age is unusual, but you should never be sidetracked by the accessories and always focus on the watch itself first and foremost. Happily it is all good news there too – the blue dial may have some light fading but it is original. The calibre 1250 movement was developed with use of some of the Bulova patents, as is recognised inside the case back – Bulova were the leaders in the tuning fork technology, so it makes sense to use their designs rather than start from scratch. The f300 moniker signifies that the watch hums at a frequency of 300hZ, whereas almost all mechanical watches run between 2.5 and 5 hZ. This is why the f300 has such a smooth sweep seconds hand. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. Neither case not bracelet have been polished, so will show some marks. The worst is probably a scratch on the crown side of the case, but you can’t feel it with your fingernail so it isn’t deep. The bracelet, with the clasp numbered 1198/195, is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required.
