A classic gold dress watch from Universal Geneve. Completely timeless design.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the London hallmark on the inside of the case we can accurately date this watch to being assayed in 1971.
CONDITION
Universal Geneve always made some fine watches, and this is no exception. While their Tri Compax chronographs and Polerouter ranges fetch thousands, this gold dress watch is more affordable. The case was made by DS&S, the renown goldsmiths that many top Swiss brands partnered to make their 9k cases – importation of completed gold watches carried a high import duty tariff, so companies like Longines, Rolex and Universal Geneve would send movements to DS&S to be cased in the UK to their standards, and therefore avoiding the duty legally. That movement is a Universal Geneve 1101, which is based on an ETA 1100 but finished to a better standard. It is working well. The Hirsch leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
