HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in February 1971. The caliber 66A movement was first introduced in 1960, but this watch has a six digit serial number (introduced in 1967) and states water resistant not water proof, which was started being used on Seiko’s in 1970.
CONDITION
Seiko watches from the 1960’s and 70’s are becoming increasing popular. The quality of materials and robust movements have moved them past many a Swiss watch, and here is another example of why people are seeking them. A fully stainless steel case, that was rated water resistant, and a solid hand winding movement adds up to a very wearable watch that has survived well. One week spot on some of the vintage Seiko watches was the bracelets, that were a little flimsy. Not the BOR one we have here – it has all the right flexibility while feeling well constructed and secure. This has also been cleaned thoroughly, and the clasp is the correct Seiko branded one. The black dial is all original, and the dauphine shape hands are crisp and clean. The acrylic crystal has been polished, and the size of this watch is very comfortable. This is subjective, but this feels like a vintage SARB033.
