Very few watches can be identified from across the room, but the Omega Geneve Dynamic would be one of the few. Model reference 166.0039.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1971.
CONDITION
At launch in 1967, Omega declared that ‘The Omega Dynamic is the first watch designed especially for the Human wrist’. It was certainly different to other watches on the market, and became Omega’s top selling watch in the early seventies. Instantly recogniseable, there were 24 different dials, different movements, 12 different straps to choose from, so you often see a combination you haven’t seen before. The case has really good graining, or radial adoucissage in Omega’s wording. Often this is damaged or worn smooth, but this is a great example. The automatic movement is Omega’s calibre 563, with pull to set quick set date. You also see that it has details like swan neck fine adjustment on the balance – not something you find on many sub £10,000 watches today. This is the 17 jewel version, so was likely destined for the US as they taxed the higher jewel calibre 565 versions there. The crystal has a small mark at 2 but it is the original one, signed with the Ω symbol in the centre. The white leather strap is lightly used, and could be swapped for a black suede one if preferred – we show this in the video. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown, crystal and buckle.
