The Edison was a rare IWC electronic model made with a highly scratch resistant tungsten carbide case.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1971. These watches were in production between 1971 and 1973.
CONDITION
This is an interesting watch. That hard metal case looks fantastic, like new from a short distance. Up close you can see some small nibbles, but it is 50+ years old. The movement is IWC’s calibre 160 – this was a rebadged version of the very good ESA 9164 (used by Longines, Omega, Universal Geneve, Baume & Mercier etc). This ultra smooth sweep second hand uses patents licensed from Bulova, and only about 1,500 calibre 160 movements were used by IWC in Edison models. The date and English date wheel can both be quick set via the crown, and the crown has the fish logo that IWC use on their waterproof watches. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The leather strap is nearly new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred, but the buckle is a modern IWC steel one. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown and buckle.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
This watch has been checked against the Watch Register and has not been reported as lost, stolen or implicated in fraud, and a copy of that certificate will also be included.
