This 1971 Bulova Accutron has a heavy gold case with integrated bracelet, and is humming away nicely.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the watch movement we can accurately date this watch to being produced in 1971.
CONDITION
The Accutron is Bulova’s biggest success story, to the point that they made the tuning fork their logo. This technology was promoted as being far more accurate than conventional gears and springs, and Bulova also boasted that an Accutron would keep time to within 2 seconds a day – guaranteed. We have included some older adverts in the photos with these claims.
This range topping model has the 2181F movement, with date and electrical hacking. The date has quick set facility – you do not pull the crown out though, you just turn it in the pushed in position to adjust the date. This movement is housed in a thick gold case, three parts all in 9k, attached to a 9k gold mesh bracelet. The total weight is 65.2g, and for comparison a Tudor gold watch we have currently on a leather strap weighs 29.3g in total (including the hand winding movement and the leather strap!). The bracelet is integrated, so please measure your wrist carefully as extending the bracelet would be difficult. The crown is original and features the tuning fork logo, as does the clasp. The mesh bracelet is not kinked at all.
