A nice clean Lord Matic Seiko with a working quick set date – which is not always the case. Model reference 5605-7020.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in January 1970.
CONDITION
The Lord Matic range sat above the standard watches, but below the King and Grand Seiko lines. There is an article here about the Lord ranges, and they mention the date only model is harder to find. The 5605 and 5606 movements are great, except for one aspect. If you try and quick set the date when the normal date change mechanism has started you will break the gear to quick set the date. You never get the chance to do it twice, so after 50 years of use the fact this has never been broken is a testament to the previous owner(s). The 5605 movement is accessed via the front, and we have left it in one piece rather than open it just for a photograph. There is a small chip in the acrylic crystal right on the edge near 11. The dial and hands are excellent. The bracelet is a later, non Seiko item but it suits the watch well and has a sliding clasp in order to fit almost any wrist, without the need for special tools.
