A slim pocket watch from Omega, which would have been retro even when it was made 50 years ago.  Model reference 1708

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1970.

CONDITION

It is interesting that while Omega were making groundbreaking designs like the Dynamic, they also launched a watch that looked backwards.  Of course Omega started off making pocket watches, so they know what they are doing, but this Omega pocket watch doesn’t fit in with the space race designs happening elsewhere in 1970.  The calibre 601 was used in various watches, and is a good movement that is running well.  The case is gold plated, and there is some damage to the plating on the rear.  There is also a mark on the stainless steel case back that we can’t remove, but happily these are on the case back and not the front.  The acrylic crystal is the original, signed with a Ω etched on the centre.  The dial is very clean, and the hands straight and true.  The case is smaller than the standard pocket watches, both in width and depth, so this does slip into a pocket easier.  Lots of people now have these as desk clocks, which has revised the pocket watch market.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
