HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1970.
CONDITION
Most ladies watches of this era are manual wind, often with just two hands. But Omega recognised that women deserved more, so developed the Ladymatic range in 1955. It still was a niche market, and the cheaper manual wind watches outsold the automatics heavily but Omega persisted and still make a Ladymatic range today (but you will need £7,400 to buy the entry level steel watch).
This watch is all working well and has the calibre 684 movement fitted. This has 24 jewels, runs at a faster 21,600 bph and has a calendar with semi quick set date (you wind the hands past midnight to change the date, then back to 21:00 and back past midnight if you need to advance the calendar more than one day.). The case is 20 micron gold plated, and is in good overall shape – the enlarged photographs on small ladies watches always make them look worse than in real life. The crown is signed, and the acrylic crystal is signed with the Ω symbol in the centre so is likely original. The rear of the case is signed Seamaster, but stamped with the correct model number inside, so it is likely Omega were using the screw down case back on both models. The black leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
