IWC’s answer to the Rolex Datejust, the Yacht Club was their best selling watch ever.  Model reference 1811

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1970.

CONDITION

The Yacht Club range was launched along with the Aquatimer at Basel watch fair in 1967, and proved an immediate success.  It contains an excellent movement, designed with the Pellaton winding system that is unique to IWC.  As well as innovations such as a sprung rotor, the movement was protected by a shock system consisting of a series of rubber shock absorbers protecting the movement from sideways jarring.  The Yacht Club success lead to IWC working with Gerald Genta on the Polo Club, Golf Club and SL ranges later on.  The in house automatic calibre is the IWC 8541B, which has hacking and semi quick set date which is all working well.  This calibre had a long service life, being fitted to watches between 1963 and 1999 – right the way through the quartz crisis that lead to the closure of many Swiss watchmakers.  All this high end horology is contained in a discreet stainless steel case, and this example is finished with a wonderful blue dial.   The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.

In May 2021 Phillips sold a blue dial reference 1811 IWC in the Geneva auction, but with a unique dial.  It made an astonishing £17,850, for basically a different shade of blue dial.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
