This Citizen Leopard Super Beat 10 is a true high beat movement running at 10 beats per second – twice the speed of many watches. Model reference 4-720369 Y.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in March 1970.
CONDITION
The Leopard range by Citizen were quite a technically advanced line, featuring hi beat (28.8kbph) or Super Beat (36.6kbph) movements, some of which were chronometer rated. The movement used in our watch is the 36.6kbps, 28 jewel Citizen 7230 automatic, with fine regulation. Not that you are likely to see it – the movement is housed in a cassette type two piece case, and the crown needs to be removed before the springs holding the case together are released. It doesn’t require any real special skills or tools, but the design was to increase water resistance and it clips together nicely. The movement also has day and date, and the date can be quick set. The calendar windows are split and different shapes, adding visually to appeal, and you also have hacking for precise time setting. The two tone blue dial is in good condition, and the orange second hand is complimented by a single orange stripe on the 12 marker. Some watches were just signed Super Beat, and some like ours has the Super Beat 10 text. The acrylic crystal overall is good, but there are two small chips over the day window. The blue leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement and crown.
