HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
This model was first launched in 1966 and is what most people think of when they imagine a vintage Omega Constellation. From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1969.
CONDITION
This was in it’s time a natural competitor to the Rolex Datejust. Both watches have chronometer rated automatic movements with date, 18k gold bezels on steel cases that are a similar size and that were water resistant. Both watches came on folded steel bracelets, and both were made by highly respected Swiss companies. Speed on five decades and there are still competitors in the vintage market, but now the Rolex is worth four times the amount. Day to day they are both great watches, but the advantage the Omega has if you are wearing different watches a lot is the Omega has a quick set date. On this high quality calibre 564 you can quick set the date by pulling the crown out further than hand set position, and repeat until you get the correct date. The Rolex Datejust didn’t get quick set date until 1977. This watch was designed by Gerald Genta, who has been responsible for many great watches (Polerouter, Royal Oak, Nautilus, etc) and the smooth lines lead to naturally thick and strong lugs. The dial has one or two spots on it, but is original and not repainted. The long, original bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. The movement is running well.
