This men’s Caravelle ‘Devil Diver’ is the manual wind version with the Japanese movement.  Model reference 2876 DP.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1969.  The movement was made in 1968, but couldn’t be cased until 1969.

CONDITION

This watch has a nicely finished 17 jewel manual wind movement marked 11DP, which was a calibre made for Caravelle’s parent company Bulova by Citizen of Japan.  In 2007, Citizen bought Bulova Watches, completing the circle!  If you prefer a Swiss movement, the automatic versions of the devil diver were Swiss movements but are rarer and more expensive.  The nickname devil diver comes from the 666ft (200m) water resistance rating, but the nickname wasn’t used at the time.  With no screw down crown we would doubt the validity of the water resistance claim, but we always advise not to get any vintage watch wet anyway.  The dial is nice, but the hour hand has a little corrosion.  The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred.  The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown, crystal, clasp, buckle and strap.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
