A highly original men’s PR516 Tissot watch, on the desirable ‘steering wheel’ solid steel bracelet. Model reference 41516.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the paperwork, which matches the one on the movement, we can accurately date this watch to being made and sold in 1968.
CONDITION
The PR516 range was launched in 1965, and inspired by motor racing. The bracelet was designed to look like the spokes on the steering wheel of sports cars, and images can be found of this distinctive bracelet in the pit lane and on the wrists of racing drivers. But it was just cosmetic – this sports watch had it’s movement suspended to make it resistant to damage from both lateral and axial shocks – PR in PR516 does stand for Particularly Robust. The movement in this watch is the manual wind Tissot 781-1, which doesn’t have any issues and is running nicely. The dial is clean, and the case has a ding on the left hand side but is otherwise just showing the usual light scratches any stainless steel watch that hasn’t been polished with show. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. If the bracelet isn’t to your liking then it could be swapped for a new leather strap if preferred.
