From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in February 1968.
CONDITION
This is one of the larger vintage watches from the 1960’s, and if you think the more standard 34/35mm would be too small then it could be a great choice. The movement inside this watch is the 7625E (Seiko model codes start with the movement calibre, so a 7625-8233 should have a 7625 movement). This is an automatic wind only movement, hence the crown is flush with the case. You can use the crown to set the time and semi quickset the date by the midnight – 20:00 – midnight method. Seiko have a long record of continually improving their movement, so the basic design of the auto winding gear is very similar to the modern 7S26 movement. The movement in this watch is working well, keeping good time and running overnight without stopping. The dial is very good, and the hands are exceptionally clean – even the lume in the tip of the second hand is complete. The dial also has the words WATER PROOF, which Seiko stopped using in the early 1970’s when they softened the claim to water resistant. The strap is new, and could be swapped for black or brown leather if preferred.
