HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in March 1968. The watch also appears in that years catalogue.
CONDITION
Technically these are not actually Braille watches, but that is how they are commonly known. You can read the time easily, but if you had restricted vision that is when this watch comes into its own. You can lift the top part of the hinged case and actually touch the hands and dial to read the time, hence the commonly used misnomer braille watch. The hands are strengthened to allow this, and no second used. We have seen similar watches before but never a Seiko (they are unlikely to have ever been sold in large numbers.) Usually this type of watch has a very dirty dial, from years of fingerprints, but this is exceptionally good. The catalogue surprised us too – usually these type of watches are sold on expanding bracelets, which are much easier to use if you can’t see, but this was pictured on a strap so we have also fitted a leather strap. The hand winding, 17 jewel calibre 6118A movement is working well and this is going to make a very interesting addition to anyone’s collection. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
