HOW DO WE DATE THIS CLOCK?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1968.
CONDITION
Jaeger-LeCoultre have always made movements of the highest quality – they are the only brand that we know of that have supplied the same base movement to Audemars Piguet, Vacheron Constantin and Patek Philippe for example. But this travel clock harks back to a time where everyone had a wind up bedside clock. Most of us had a noisy pin pallet clock from Ingersoll or Smiths. But those with a larger disposable income could buy a Memovox from JLC.
The movement in this is the same K911 calibre that is used in some of their wrist watches, so you get an alarm clock with KIF shock protection to cope with being moved better. You have two crowns, both signed, and one sets and winds the clock and the other sets and winds the alarm. You can instantly see which one winds the watch, as the plating has worn through on the case back though use. Once the alarm sounds a small hammer strikes the peg on the case back, so you get an wonderful mechanical buzz that beats a bleep every day. At the back of the clock is a small in built stand. The bezel on this example is quite similar to a modern Omega Constellation, with the painted roman numerals. The clock even has a date function that can be semi quickset. The dial is good, with the tritium lume plots still in place on the hour markers. This is a classy addition to either a bedside table or a desk.
