The 33 jewel Seikomatic P was a model that all the extra features in the Seiko range. Model reference 5106-7000.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in June 1967.
CONDITION
It is great when we can find a catalogue for the watch we have from 1967 – which sadly can not happen every time. By comparing it to 1967 catalogue we can see this Seikomatic P appears to have the same hands and beads of rice bracelet as the catalogue, reassuring us that is has not been put together from parts in later life. The only difference we can see is the factory Daini logo isn’t in the catalogue picture. No all Seiko bracelets of this age survive with the watch, and many are too short for most wrists. Not a problem here for most people. As well as the extra jewels, this calibre 5106A movement also has hacking seconds for accurate time keeping, the ability to hand wind the watch (many Seiko of this era were automatic wind only), and there is a button set within the crown to quick set the date. The day is in English only – which is the same as it shows in the catalogue, even though the catalogue was intended for the Japanese domestic market only. This watch new cost about 50% more than a similar looking Seiko 5, so didn’t sell nearly as well and is now far harder to find. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement and clasp.
