A square Longines 18k gold watch, with manual winding movement and NOS Longines strap. Model reference 7874-1
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1967.
CONDITION
If you are looking for a square cased watch from the 1960’s then my usual go to answer is the Zenith Respirator. However we have never seen one of those in 18k gold (they are normally gold plated or steel), so this Longines 18k gold case is an ideal choice for those who prefer precious metal. The movement is the excellent calibre 285, which is running well including the semi quickset date feature (like the Respirator, set at 4.30 – who copied who?). The dial has some damage, most noticeably there is a bend where a round movement fits against a square dial, but the case is very good and has Swiss hallmarks on the inside of the case back. The case, like all square cases, wears a little larger than the dimensions suggest. The acrylic glass has some scratches too, and the crown is not signed so may be a replacement. The NOS Longines leather strap is unworn except for photography, and has been completed with a new Longines buckle to finish the look nicely.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
