A manual wind, stainless steel 1960’s Longines with box and papers, in very clean condition. Model reference 7839.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can say this watch was made in 1967, but the paperwork, with matching model and serial number, show it was sold in November 1969. Either year would be valid for a birth year watch.
CONDITION
The advantage of waterproof watch cases is that they also keep out other damaging elements such as smoke and dirt, and that would explain why the dial on this Longines is in such good order. Although when 50+ year old watches are still with their box and retain the original paperwork , like this one does, it also says something about careful ownership. But the watch is not perfect – the crown has lost the chrome finish or may be a replacement, and the case back has some small tool marks from opening. The movement however is a beautifully finished Longines 284, and the only criticism is that you can’t see it more often. Both the armoured acrylic crystal and the leather strap are new, so this watch is ready to wear and enjoy.
This watch will be supplied with the original presentation box, papers and our Certificate of Authenticity.
