The 820 was the date only Sportsmatic model from Seiko, and is scarcer than the day date. Model reference 7625-8140.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in December 1966. The latest Sportsmatic models were from 1967, so this is quite a late model.
CONDITION
The Sportsmatic was absorbed in to the Seiko 5 range, but with this being a date only watch it wouldn’t have qualified as a Seiko 5. The earliest watches had calibre 820 (hence the name) and chrome plated cases, but this has a later calibre 7625 movement and an all stainless steel construction. The movement is automatic wind only, so these do suit a more active person (unless you want to shake the watch before wearing it to wind it). The date is semi quick set, going past midnight and back to 8pm, then past midnight to advance the date by one each time. The larger than average for the time case and crystal are in good shape, and the dial is original with just very light patina. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.

From 1st September 2021 we will be planting a tree for every watch we sell, working with the International Tree Foundation (Est 1922) to make this business positive on carbon. By buying anything pre owned you are effectively reusing what already exists, but this takes it further and makes us feel good.
