HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back owe can accurately date this watch to being made in November 1966.
CONDITION
Seiko launched the Seiko 5 model in 1963, and they are still in production today. They really are popular, but because they sold well and so many survived they are not as expensive as most 1960’s vintage watches. This particular earlier model still has the Sportsmatic branding, which was removed by the 1970’s and they just became Seiko 5’s. This Sportsmatic reference has a 36.5mm stainless steel case with a chromed patterned bezel – the bezel is showing some wear but still glints nicely. The dial is very nice, as are the hands. The automatic only (no hand winding) calibre 6619A movement is running nicely and the quick set set works by pushing the crown inwards. The day wheel is in English, and has no quick set feature. The strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
