This Seiko Sportsmatic 5 Deluxe is in excellent condition, and is in a 38mm stainless steel case. One of the best! Model reference 7619-7010
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in October 1966. We have also found a Japanese catalogue from 1966 that shows this case style and a separate watch with the same bracelet, so we know the bracelet is the correct period too. (pictured)
CONDITION
The Seiko 5 range was launched in 1963, and continues to this day. The Deluxe models were not around for long, and we can see from the 1966 catalogue they commanded a 19% price premium over the standard watch. This Sportsmatic Deluxe model was ¥10,500, and the bracelet on this example was shown in the brochure on a slightly more expensive watch. We do not know if the bracelet was an option on this model, or a later marriage, but given they were both in the 1966 catalogue it is likely these have been together from new. The condition of this watch is excellent. The all stainless steel case is unpolished yet still crisp, particularly on the angled lugs. The dial is close to perfect, and the hands reminiscent of a Grand Seiko. The acrylic crystal is new, and shows the dial off superbly. It also shows that there are no marks or wear to the chapter ring, or the serrated bezel that is under the glass for protection. That is a smart idea, as serrated bezels are often dirt traps and having them under the crystal eliminates dirt build up. This 25 jewel movement has the ability to quick set the date via the pusher just above three, and also hacks for precise time keeping, and we have found a parts datasheet to show the upgrades over the more basic calibre 7625A that was found in the non Deluxe models.
