A solid gold case holding a quality Longines manual wind movement, and a nice set. Model reference 39989.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1966. The London assay mark is for 1965, but it would have been paired in 1966.
CONDITION
Gold watches from the 1960’s are not uncommon, as they were often given as rewards for long service by employers. But this Longines does not have any inscription on the case back, so may have been bought privately. The case is stamped for Baume, Longines then importer in the UK, and for DS&S. David Shackman and Sons were quality case makers, and to legally get around very high import duties on complete gold watches Longines (and many others) would import the movement and have it cased in the UK. There is a small dent in the case back, but otherwise the case is good. The movement is the Longines calibre 370, a 17 jewel manual wind unit which is both beautifully finished and running well. The dial and hands are original and very nice. The leather strap is a new old stock Longines leather, and has been paired with a later Longines gold platedbuckle.
This watch will be supplied with the original presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.

From 1st September 2021 we will be planting a tree for every watch we sell, working with the International Tree Foundation (Est 1922) to make this business positive on carbon. By buying anything pre owned you are effectively reusing what already exists, but this takes it further and makes us feel good.
