A solid gold dress watch from the respected maker Cyma, which has their in house manual wind movement inside.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the London hallmark on the inside of the case back we can accurately date this watch to being assayed in 1966.
CONDITION
Unlike many gold watches of this era, this has a larger 34 mm case in place of the more normal 32 or 33mm. That does make a difference, and with the thin bezel the watch does wear larger than 34 mm cases often do too. The case back has never been engraved, and the lugs are straight – these lugs take standard spring bars, so the choice of strap is wider than if it had fixed bars. The lugs do have some marks on, which might be able to be polished off, but we don’t polish watches here – we prefer to leave them original. The off white dial has applied markers and logo, and the sweep second hand is a welcome complication. The 18 jewel in house Cyma 486.2 movement is running well. The strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
