In 18k white gold, this wide bezel model features Vacheron Constantin’s ultrathin 1003 movement. Model reference 6335.

From the import hall marks for 18k gold we can see this was assayed in the UK in 1964/5. Vacheron Constantin have confirmed to us that this was made in 1965. In 1972 Vacheron & Constantin became just Vacheron Constantin, so that also fits. The movement was launched in 1955 for the 200th anniversary of the company being founded.

Vacheron Constantin have always and only many top end watches, and are often quoted with Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe as the Holy Trinity of watchmaking, and Vacheron Constantin are comfortably the oldest of the three. For perspective, VC were formed 153 years before Rolex! For their bicentennial year they launched the outstanding movement featured in this watch, calibre 1003. At just 1.64 mm tall, it was the thinnest manual wind movement in the world and it is still being fitted to watches today – although the prices start at £27,800 at time of press. The model we have here has an 18k white gold case which has fine detail around the extra wide, knife edge bezel. But one of the more unusual features of this reference 6335 is the conical crown, which sits recessed into the case. The original dial is pretty clean and the hands straight, while the glass is scratch and chip free. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
