HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number between the bottom lugs, and on the inside of the case back, we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1965.
CONDITION
This is not a safe queen, but a wearable example of the classic Oyster Perpetual Date. Let’s just break down that name – Oyster refers to the case design, waterproof (when new) and a design still recognisable on new Rolex watches. Perpetual refers to the automatic movement, powered by your natural movement (or by hand winding), and the date is pretty self explanatory. Everything is working well and authentic. The watch has been worn and has signs of that everywhere, but a mint example would cost lots more (a new Oyster Perpetual is nearly £5k). The dial has patina, which gives is a golden hue, and the hour markers have signs of tarnish. All this will look worse in the enlarged photos than in real life. The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath, and appears to be a later Rolex one – there is a date code for 1989 in the clasp. It does have stretch, as almost every Jubilee bracelet does, but the clasp is working and is secure. The crown screws down smoothly, and is signed with the correct underscore to show it is a steel twin lock crown. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown and clasp.
This watch will be supplied with an original Rolex service box, and our Certificate of Authenticity. The service box has some damage and no cushion inside.
This watch has been checked against the Watch Register and has not been reported as lost, stolen or implicated in fraud, and a copy of that certificate will also be included.
