The Girard-Perregaux Gyromatic came in various models, but the 39 jewel movement was the top end. Model reference 8026.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the supplied paperwork this watch was sold in July 1965. The paperwork describes a model reference 8026 in Stainless Steel but this watch does not have any model number engraved on it, so we are presuming the papers match. We have no reason to doubt it, but the movement serial number would being put on the papers would have confirmed it.
CONDITION
They extra jewels in the 39 jewel Gyromatic are all in the reverser gears of the automatic mechanism, and are functional (in the 1960’s some manufacturers used false jewelling, fitting non functional jewels, to make their watches sound better than they were.) In hindsight the extra jewels didn’t make much difference – if they did other companies would also have put jewels in the reverser wheels, but somehow people still would prefer the 39 jewel watch over the 17 jewel watch.
This watch has some patina to the dial but the dial is original and not restored. The stainless steel case has a screw down case back and is a little larger than average for the time. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
This watch will be supplied with the original papers and our Certificate of Authenticity.

From 1st September 2021 we will be planting a tree for every watch we sell, working with the International Tree Foundation (Est 1922) to make this business positive on carbon. By buying anything pre owned you are effectively reusing what already exists, but this takes it further and makes us feel good.
