The Citizen Super Deluxe Date is a rare find, especially in a 37mm 14k gold filled case. Model reference HODF 51402Y.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in June 1965.
CONDITION
The Citizen Super Deluxe Date is a bit of a long name, but it isn’t just deluxe – it is super deluxe! In a ‘regular’ watch from 1965 you might expect a gold plated case, 17 jewel movement and a case of about 34mm. This has a larger case, which 14k gold filled, and a 25 jewel movement. A gold filled case is far thicker than gold plate, which helps explain why this still looks so good today. Very few gold plated watches will have a gold plated case back, as it wears too quickly, but the writing on the golden case back of the Super Deluxe Date is still crystal clear and evidence of wear to any part of the case is minimal. The 25 jewel hand wound Citizen movement also carries the Super Deluxe Date reference, so possibly it was unique to this model? The dial is very good, with applied markers and Citizen logo, but the crystal has a slight defect near 8. The semi quickset date is all working well, as is everything else. The strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement and crown.
