A larger than average for the time watch, this Citizen AutoDater has more than just size going for it. Model reference ADST 51302-Y.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in June 1965.
CONDITION
At first glance you might dismiss this as another Datejust wannabe, but while it may borrow some styling elements from the Datejust such as the fluted bezel and cyclops over the date, it does have some other advantages over the Rolex. Obviously there is the day window at 12, set in English, but it also has quick set date a whole decade before Rolex fitted it, operated by pulling the crown out further than hand set position. The day wheel can not be quick set. The case is also 2mm wider than the Datejust, which will matter to some people. Condition is overall quite good, but the crown has lost the capping (including the Citizen C logo) and the crystal has a chip at 24 minutes. The dial is very good, as are the hands. The gold plated bezel doesn’t even show much wear – the solid gold bezel of the Datejust would normally win that round! Inside the case is Citizen’s Jet Rotor automatic movement, which we discuss in the video more. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case and movement.
