The Snorkel model was one of a few models that inspired the Biblically inspired devil diver moniker, thanks to the 666ft depth rating. Model reference 386-1.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the production stamp on the inside of the case back we can see this was made in 1964, but the production number on the movement is for one year later. So the two parts would have been assembled in 1965.
CONDITION
The first Bulova divers watch was launched in 1961. It’s 666ft (203M) depth rating was designed to impress – the deepest a diver had gone in 1961 was 133m. So like 99.9% of divers watches these numbers are irrelevant, as few owners would dive with the watch. And you should never get any vintage watch wet, even if it is called Snorkel.
This Snorkel has a nice Bulova calibre 11 ALACD automatic movement with calendar, which is working well. The crystal may be the original – it has a date magnifier on the underside of the glass, and the crown is signed with the Bulova tuning fork logo. The dial is very nice, but the hands are a different colour – maybe one has been relumed or replaced at one point? The bezel turns in both directions with a click. The rubber strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.

From 1st September 2021 we will be planting a tree for every watch we sell, working with the International Tree Foundation (Est 1922) to make this business positive on carbon. By buying anything pre owned you are effectively reusing what already exists, but this takes it further and makes us feel good.
