Disco Volante watches are so called as the cases resemble flying saucers, which in Italian is disco volante!

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the import hall mark for Edinburgh, stamped on the inside of the case back, we can accurately tell that this watch was assayed in 1965.

CONDITION

In the sixties the space race influenced design of so many items, and watches were not exempt.  Many Disco Volante watches are found from very expensive brands, such as Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin, but this is the first time we have seen a more affordable Accurist.  The case design does use more gold than a standard case, which might explain that.  Inside the case is a Peseux 330 manual wind 21 jewel movement, branded for Accurist and working well.  The dial has some marks, but is original and not repainted.  The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.  The case has what is known as males lugs, so you need a female springbar that we will obviously use.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.

Please see the HD video for more detail.  All photos and videos are part of the description and are of the actual watch unless mentioned.  We do not photoshop any pictures, and the images are copyright of birthyearwatches.com and should not be used without permission.

From 1st September 2021 we will be planting a tree for every watch we sell, working with the International Tree Foundation (Est 1922) to make this business positive on carbon.  By buying anything pre owned you are effectively reusing what already exists, but this takes it further and makes us feel good.
